You know something? When I’m writing something important, it literally feels like universal energy is moving. It does. Not because of me, but due to what I’m writing about. It is overwhelming. I’m writing about the characteristics of this person, which made him shine above the others. – Especially in my life.
We all know, Allama Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is these same qualities of honesty and integrity which makes a person stand out. The qualities of fearlessness and being total focused to objectives in life.
Nothing moves such a person from his goal.
Due to this quality, such a person has the ability to shake up reality of their times, into how it is meant to be! All this, because the vision is so focused.
Sometimes in life, it comes to a point when, when you can’t trust anyone. This is why men of integrity are so greatly valued. Sometimes, only a couple of meetings with them are enough. That is how it was when I met Mr. Ijaz Ahmed Khan, President of MPCHS, in his office in G-8 Markaz, in December 2011. I believe I met him twice in my life.
It was enough to change my life…
It was a freezing cold rainy day, when I drove over in my Alto, to his office with my daughter Waliya.
I had left, my husband admitted in CMH, in the competent hands of Nadiya who had just arrived from England, to defend herself against the obnoxious behavior of her uncles and aunt. We had gone to Mr. Ijaz’s office to let him know of our situation. We found out that my eldest brother-in-law had already been busy trying to get our in-complete house on his name. It felt as if the roof over my head and the ground under my feet was slipping away. A husband suffering the last stages of cancer, and here I was left to fend for myself and my children in the worst of circumstances. Had it not been for the help from Ijaz Ahmed Khan, I don’t know how things would have turned out.
There were several other angels in my life too, who worked day and night to help me. But primarily, it was Ijaz Khan who made sure no one could touch the roof over our heads.
Strangely enough, I’m remembering what a maid said to me once in Karachi, in 1989:
‘Had it not been for the bad people in this world, how would we know the good people?’
That is exactly, how I met Ijaz Ahmed Khan.
Due to the bad people;
When my flesh and blood was trying to do me out of my house and home; here was a total stranger, who made sure I had one!
Ijaz Ahmed Khan didn’t know us personally. However, he didn’t give my enemy’s requests any weightage. So they prepared a ‘case’ complete with notes from Tehsildar of their area. They threatened him with cases against him and the organization. Ijaz Khan remained unshaken. I was busy in hospital trying to save my husband’s life, and desperately trying to stay in control of the situation.
Four of my husbands’ siblings succeeded in getting the banks closed in my husband’s lifetime. They also got hold of life insurance and education insurance portions.
It is interesting, how, my in-laws got the bank frozen at a time, when my husband was ill needing treatment. (How and why would a client want to close a bank at such a time?) The bank manager Marium didn’t care.
Sadly, there aren’t many Ijaz Khans in all offices to ‘know’ that something is wrong here, and to have the guts to support the aggrieved family!
Only Ijaz Ahmed Khan was one such man who stood by me. This gold medalist from IBA, got the papers out from office records to find out that my husband had intended the house to be for me, so he put it on my name. He, alone supported a widow and orphans. (Those same siblings hid the inherited belongings of my husband from his family, along with those lands which my father-in-law had personally put in our names.)
Today, as I sit under a secure roof, only because Allah had sent Ijaz Ahmed Khan to take care of me. (There are many more angels who did a lot to keep me protected.) Such men and women of character and commitment are the ones who are keeping the sanity in this country and this world today.
After my husband’s death I was deep in struggles, and didn’t get a chance to meet Mr. Ijaz Khan to thank him properly. When finally I did go, in 2016, I found out that he had passed away, a few months back.
I was deeply disturbed.
I went to meet his family. His wife, Roohi told me that when my case had come to his office, he was very upset. He said I’ll support this family being bullied at such a time in their lives. ‘I don’t care what happens, I am supporting this family.’
‘What if you lose your job?’ Roohi had asked.
‘I don’t care if I lose my job. I cannot sit by and watch such things happening!’ He had answered.
While other companies including EFU, Banks, holding my husband’s assets were totally confused, this organization MPCHS was clear. It was clear due to its worthy president, Ijaz Ahmed Khan.
Sure enough the litigations went ahead, the defense carried on for four-and-a-half years. Finally, I had to agree to give my in-laws 1135 Kanals of agricultural lands, in our names (which was totally un-Islamic, but condoned by all and sundry here. I was virtually forced to agree to this.)
I’ll never forget how much Multi Professional Cooperative Housing Scheme stood by their clients’ wishes. It is truly a great and honorable organization. It is beautifully managed and secure in every way.
When I had gone to the office of the MPCHS President, Ijaz Ahmed Khan, he had picked up the phone and asked Arsalan, the man in-charge of of security around my house, to take special care. He told them to make sure the guards in the colony keep a special eye.
To this day, they give me special attention. So, at a time, when my own so-called flesh and blood were striving against me, total strangers were like angels setting my world right-side-up!
This is how Allah helps.
After he passed away, Ijaz Ahmed Khan’s wife told me that many people had come for condolences, telling her of the ways in which he had gone out of his way to help them.
In fact, I remember, once as I sat in his office, I had mentioned that I’m trying to educate my staff, but it is difficult to find the time daily to teach them. He suggested keeping a tutor to teach one’s staff. He said, ‘this is what I do.’ To this day, their staff is taught by a tutor.
He is the one from whom I got the idea of getting a tutor for my domestic help at home.
A man of character and commitment is a man from whom you learn how to live. Within those brief moments that I was in his office, I learn these few things. I wonder how many other homes are blessed due to the fact that their lives were touched by a man like Ejaz Ahmed Khan.
This is how one man can make a difference in so many lives.
This is the difference words can make.
I was reading out this passage to my mother this morning, and I realized how these fit into our lives and into this blog of mine of today, from Surah Ibraheem, how it finds an analogy of words with trees! Verses: 14: 24-27
|Do you not see how Allah gave the example of comparing a good word with a good tree, whose roots are firm and its branches are in the sky? It yields its fruits in every season by Allah’s leave, Allah cites these examples for men so that they may learn a lesson from them. (25) But the example of an evil word is that of an evil tree which is torn out from the earth and has no stability. (26) With firm words Allah makes the believers steadfast in the life of this world and in the hereafter; but Allah lets the wrongdoers go astray. Allah does what He pleases. Ibraheem: 14: verses: 24-27.
A couple of months ago, Shabnam Riaz mentioned that she wants to plant trees in July. I said I’d love to work with her for this project. Both our groups also agreed to join in. The location was the issue, as we wanted a place where our trees would be looked after well.
A few weeks back, I saw a message on my phone that there is a road named Ijaz Ahmed Khan in B 17… That did it! I called the management person Arsalan and he referred me to Obaid, and we got going… and this is how, the Arts and Literary group led by Shabnam Riaz, were supported by members of Shireen’s Studio, in order to plant trees along the road named after Ijaz Ahmed Khan, in B-17, Islamabad. Shabnam got approval to receive 200 trees from the Pakistan Tobacco Company nursery in F-9, Islamabad.
On Auguest 13th (yesterday) sixteen of us went over to B 17 to office of Obaid Ahmed. We were specially honored to have Salman with us who is son of Ijaz Ahmed Khan. Col Tauseef, the son-in-law was also there during the plantation. It was wonderful to have ten gardeners, we all were transported to different locations in their go carts, from the office. Obaid, the horticulturist had everything arranged, and was monitoring it all. He had got proper pitting done. We were taught how to do it correctly, by the gardeners.
I can’t tell you how happy we all felt.
So this blog is about a great human being, great words, and trees. How they all blend to make our world beautiful.
Stay blessed my wonderful Reader. (You deserve a medal for reading my blog to this length!)
